Crop Reports

United States Crop Report - August 4, 2010

The last week 10 days of July and first few days of August have been stressful on soybeans and corn in the central US corn belt. Rains have come in some areas but large areas of central Illinois and western IN have been lacking in moisture.

The corn crop has effectively been maxed by a lack of rain during the latter portions of pollination. Many ears are not filled out to the tips and evidence of loss of nutrients and limited root system is showing up as a result of excess moisture in May and June. Rains now would add test weight to the corn but not kernals.

Soybeans are well podded in most areas and have not yet been hurt by lack of moisture. However, moisture is needed immediately to maximize / increase soybean yields. Now through the 20 August is the window in which the soybean yield, size, and general quality is determined. The attached pictures are the same fields we have been following in Livingston Co IL. The pictures are of our 751 non GM clear hylum bean.
