Crop Reports
Canada Crop Report - August 18, 2010
The SW Ontario soybean crop remains ahead of the average pace. Average to above average temperatures have persisted over the past week with limited rainfall accumulation. In some fields of early maturing varieties, soybeans are beginning to respond to the decrease in daylight hours and are beginning to yellow and drop leaves. Although there have been few reports of any major disease problems this season, instances of white mold are beginning to increase with many fields having very thick and lush canopies. The same can be said of insect related problems. To this point, the season has seen a lack of any severe pressure; however, spidermite damage is becoming a common sight throughout the province. Additionally, reports of pod feeding by bean leaf beetles are becoming more prevalent with some fields in northern Huron County reaching threshold levels.
Temperatures for the next week are forecast to be on par with seasonal averages, with potential for a few scattered rain events.
Below is a picture of 03-W4's from northern Huron County as well as a field with severe spidermite damage near Clinton.
