Crop Reports
Canada Crop Report - September 19, 2011
Harvest has begun. Last week we saw our first field of Chikala harvested along with some S 03-W4
late in the week and on the weekend. As expected yields have been quite variable. Reports from
Niagara region on early planted fields are well below average(25bus/ac) while S 03-W4 near Ingersoll
is near average(45bus/ac). Chikala field that was harvested was slightly below average at 36 bus/ac.
The rest of the soybean crop is advancing quickly with most fields now approaching or in the R7
growth stage. The cool week of weather shut down the soybean plant quicker than expected. We
expect harvest to gradually begin later this week if the weather co-operates. Most varieties will be
harvestable by Oct 10th.
Pre-harvest burndown is being done at this time in fields that have weed escapes. Insect and diseases
are past the point of economical control as we approach R7. Insect activity has slowed considerably
since the arrival of the cool weather.
This week calls for moderate temperatures with rainfall expected today with chances for more rain
later in the week.
