Crop Reports

United States Crop Report - October 7, 2011

Rains from the past week or so have subsided, cooler weather is gone, and dry air with warmer temperatures are set for the weekend. Due to the pleasant changes in the weather, fields are drying out, crops are finishing and harvest should be in full swing by late next week. Early corn estimates in the central Illinois area are about as predicted in the 175 bpa range. Southern crops are suffering from mid-season drought. Early soybean yields vary greatly ranging from as low as 16 bpa with yields well below average coming in around 30bpa. North Central Illinois and Indiana soybeans are finishing maturity. Late planted beans avoided the frost and are benefitting greatly from the recent rains by filling out upper pod sets nicely. Yields in these areas are expected to be above average, with good moisture levels and seed quality as long as stable weather holds until the end of October to allow harvest to complete.
